The Oracle Industry Lab used its multipurpose construction space to test eight different reality capture technologies with academic standards. During these experiments, the team measured everything, apples-to-apples, from the data capture process itself, to upload and processing time, and resource requirements to show how project teams can effectively assess the right approach for the right job. 2D and 3D reality mapping can improve how organizations handle documenting and communicating project progress and quality, logistics planning, safety inspections, and assessing as-built conditions throughout a structure’s lifecycle.
These experiments took place in November 2022 at the Oracle Industry Lab in Deerfield, Ill. Oracle’s Vice President of Global Industry Labs, Burcin Kaplanoglu; Reconstruct’s Chief Strategy Officer and University of Illinois Professor Mani Golparvar; Tomislav Žigo, CTO of Clayco; and Jennifer Suerth, SVP at Pepper Construction will discuss the insights and lessons learned from these experiments and how architects, engineers, contractors, and owners should account for the right process and team, in addition to the correct tool, to satisfy their specific use cases and requirements.
