There’s a lot we can learn from this year’s Newsmakers, chosen by the editors of ENR. One led the construction of hospitals in Haiti; another built a bridge to connect Turkey’s two-continent expanse. Others pushed for adoption of burgeoning ideas like Right to Repair and Engineering With Nature. They’ve been instrumental in developing or improving standards that affect the safety of those who work on projects and those who use the completed structures. One ensured that construction’s voice was heard when it came to COVID-19 policies, others persevered on projects from critical bridge repair to airport construction as the pandemic contributed to the already complicated nature of the work. As distinct as their achievements are, these 25 Newsmakers show what it means to work in and for their communities. Read their stories on the pages that follow and meet them in person at ENR’s Award of Excellence gala on March 31 at Pier 60, Chelsea Piers, in New York City. Visit enr.com/aoe to register.
