Architect
Marvel

Luba Valkova is an architect whose expertise includes adaptive reuse and renovation, mixed-use residential, and master plan projects. She is interested in how design can shape peoples' relationships to each other and to the environment, and she approaches the experiential and the engineered aspects of a building as a cohesive system. Luba recently led the New York City Housing Authority's Integrated Design initiative, which is a multidisciplinary effort to develop a parametric tool for optimizing retrofit strategies that balance energy efficiency, occupant comfort, embodied carbon, and feasibility. She enjoys the challenge of complex problems and seeks to offer nuanced solutions. Her design work recently played an important part in the Snug Harbor Capital Project Scope Development — a revitalization plan for a public park and multiple landmarked buildings. She also worked on designs for the renovation of Playwrights Horizons' downtown Manhattan theater, and a 250,000 sq. ft. residential building in Pelham, N.Y. At Marvel, she serves on the Sustainability Group, working to better integrate and track sustainable design practices across the firm.
